What It’s Like to Tackle the Challenge of Sharing The Chosen with a Billion People

Our visit on the ground while in Egypt meeting with The Coptic Egyptian Church, Catholic Center for Cinema and the Evangelical Church.

There are missions that seem too big to put into words. Trying to reach a billion people with The Chosen feels like one of them. But then again, isn’t that the thrill? The great challenge and reward of a lifetime — that pull between, “This is impossible,” and “This is exactly what I’m meant to do.”

This isn’t just a job; it’s a calling. A call to reach out, to push boundaries, to lean on every scrap of marketplace experience and ministry service I’ve gathered over the years. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned from my journey — from pioneering new broadband in remote Kodiak, Alaska with SpaceX Starlink to guiding organizations toward impact — it’s that big visions demand bold moves.

One thing I often say is, “If the journey doesn’t push your limits, it’s not big enough.” And aiming to connect with a billion people? That’s more than big enough. When you’re aiming to connect with that many lives, you can’t rely on traditional approaches. You need innovative thinking, creative partnerships, and a willingness to push through resistance. It’s about taking the lessons of the past and applying them in ways that create real change. In Kodiak, that meant overcoming logistical nightmares and technological hurdles to bring broadband where it had never existed. With The Chosen, it’s about meeting people where they are — literally in every corner of the globe — and finding ways to inspire, engage, and transform lives through storytelling.

For leaders in innovative business and non-profits, or pastors wanting to connect with people in unprecedented ways, this mission offers something powerful. “A legacy is built by bold choices,” I remind myself often, and this mission is exactly that — a bold choice. It’s an invitation to be part of something bigger than ourselves, bigger than a single congregation or brand. It’s about using every tool we’ve got — every platform, every network, every connection — to build a movement that can reach and transform lives on an unprecedented scale.

In my experience, the only way to tackle a mission this big is by focusing on the one. When you’re aiming for a billion, you have to start with one person, one heart, one story. The small moments matter. They add up, they ripple out, and before you know it, they become the foundation of something global, something that can reach people in places you never imagined.

At the end of the day, it’s not just about numbers. It’s about the mission. It’s about answering that call and knowing that everything I’ve done, every risk taken, every bold move, has led me to this. This journey of sharing The Chosen isn’t just a job; it’s the privilege of a lifetime. And I’m ready to see where it takes us all.
